Could someone recommend the best material for a Sash Window repair. The bottom part of the frame is rotten and I need to replace it. I haven't done this sort of thing before and would apprecaite advice on the best timber to use

Cedar , chances are that the original was a cedar sash. A lot easier to do if you have a router/ trimmer. If it is painted inside and out that also makes the job a lot easier.
