I am starting a new dovecote. From pictures on the web have been able to draw up a rough plan. Using 9mm marine ply for the octogon walls and roof, with inside bracing/frame. Some old posts on this site have been really helpful with bevel cut angles etc.

One question I have not resolved - Should the post the dovecote will 'sit' on, go right up inside it to the roofor is it okay to sit the base on top of the post with some bracing. The latter will be simpler but not as sturdy I am thinking. Any thoughts welcome.

Also if I have missed links to some plans please let me kow, I couldn't find any.

Thanks,

Greeny

I'm no over-familiar with dovecotes, so I'm not sure how big you plan to build it, but I would think sitting on a post and suitably braced would be sturdy enough for the doves. After all, they roost in trees that are waving about all the time.
