Suggestions please for filling in a pond

Hi, I want to fill in the pond in the picture below (sorry for the bad photo). It sits just above my pool - water from the filter is meant to flow into it and waterfall into the pool, however there is a leak in the underground piping somewhere so I have removed it from the circuit - the problem now is that it sits empty and fills up with rainwater, leaves, mosquito larvae etc, so I want to fill it. What would be my best way of filling it? I don't want it to end up like a swamp or for anything loose to wash into the pool when it rains

I was thinking of trying to break up the bottom and then filling with gravel and then rocks on top. My wifes suggestion is to "just fill it with concrete"......

Size is aboutj 1.8m x 1m x 200mm deep

Any other suggestions? Looking for something easy as it is quite hard to get to as you can't wheel a wheelbarrow up to it

Fill it with soil, and plant some ground cover plants and more ferns.

make sure you put drainage holes in the bottom before filling with soil otherwise you might drown your new plants. Also agree with ferns....

Thanks for the replies. Actually part of the problem is that there seems to be really deep concrete underneath it. I have drilled as deep as I can and still not got through it. The whole pool is concrete so who knows how deep it is - breaking it up does not seem to be an option as I dont want to crack the pool. They may just have dumped whatever was left...

I think I may just fill it with road base or something similar so that water can run off and then cover with more rocks.
I think if I fill it with soil it will end up as a swamp (+ the soil will run into the pool)

Swamps are not a bad thing when considering gardens, lots of native plants (and frogs) like wet feet, use a grinder to take some out of a side and I'd be filling with gravel and rocks and trying to give a home to endangered local amphibians
