i thought the idea of forums was "help" people find answers, i may have a limited knowledge, but anyone is free to ask me about anything, hopefully without forum members coming (or looking) down on them!
EDITED POST: - Funnily we don't have that type of member here.

You see you should have stopped that sentence right there!!

You do have to wonder though. I am on another forum where people ask the most fatuous questions (not like the intelligent types we get here). At times i simply supply the link to the google search page for the subject in question. Oddly they rarely come back and ask again ... though the more alert do come back to the forum and join in the general discussion once they have gotten over their blushes ...

I may know that forum, I read there for the witty answers, though they're a tad cruel.

I'm a member of at least a couple hundred forums. I love the internets.
What makes a good forum is a little bit of fisty cuffs and just enough stupid people asking stupid questions to make it interesting.

I'd love to go on one and ask how to use a mobile phone... ( I actually don't know how, never used one, live in a dead zone - however I do tend to read the instructions to anything before using.)

On the subject of 'reading the instructions' Have you noticed how those instructions are becoming more and more aimed at the totally dim - or that make using the thing for the design purpose impossible? Like the one on a fan - do not operate in temperatures over 25 degrees ... why would you want to use one if the temperature was below 25 degrees? and how come you can't use it if the temp is high enough to need to use it?

I apologise if you were offended by my post. It was meant as a joke, and not a poke at folks who come into forums, ask questions and participate. I found it on another forum and both Moondog and I thought it was hilarious. It is directed at those who can't be bothered doing any of their own research.

I would never turn away anyone who came in looking for information or assistance...we're all here to help each other.

My teacher in year six used to complain that there was no sound reason for calling it common sense as it was such a rare commodity. And Moondog I love that expression! Will have to keep it up my sleeve for use elsewhere.

Don't worry, everyone else gets the joke. Half of what I know these days comes from searching the internet. The other half I make up. Nah, just jokin'. I wonder whether some people even think to search for themselves.
