I'm just reposting this in here, in the hope of getting a better response than one down:):)
G'day all,
I am once again here on my go-to site for assistance and advice on renovation. It has basically helped me through a full kitchen, a floating floor install, wall removal and replacement, plastering and tiling, and a bifold room divider.
Now on to the (hopefully) last of the saga, an external sliding door.
I currently have a rumpus room which merges with the kitchen.
The back door, leading outside, is a standard 2040 x 820. This leads out to a covered patio, where we do most of our entertaining. The door is in a 3m timber framed cavity wall, (non load bearing, under a skillion roof), masonite clad on the inside, and weatherboard outside. In order to improve access to the patio, and to improve flow, I want to replace this with a full width sliding door.
In my lookings, I have located a 2850 3-panel sliding door, glass with timber frame, which I think would do the job perfectly, at D**rs +. Quoted me $2.5k. I have ordered this, hopefully for delivery before Xmas
Now some questions:
I intend doing installation myself. I am assuming I will strip off the internal sheeting, and cut through the weatherboard along the architrave line. Then remove/cut current framing, and reframe for 2 stub walls, and a false lintel to fit the unit, checked into the uprights?
I would assume that the runners/guides etc would already be part of the frame, which would mount onto the exiting footing, and be fixed into the stub walls and false lintel?
While external weatherproofing is not critical, given that the opening will be under full cover, I would still like to comply with codes etc, so what would be the detail of completeing the external trim/architrave etc, to meet this as well as aesthetic needs?
Back stairs are currently 900 wide, plastered brick (I think). I could either extend these to 2m, or alternatively demolish, and replace with full width (3m) timber stairs. Any suggestions?
Looking forward to the assistance I have always found on this Forum.
regards
