HI all,
I am a long time lurker...first time poster. Based up in Brisbane and about to tackle a small paving job adjacent to our house (raised QLD'er with the underneath bricked in and converted into a laundry/store room)
My plan was to excavate my area (1.6m x 5.4m) then lay 100mm road base, compact - then 40mm bedding sand/cement mix before laying the 400x400x40 pavers on top.
However, the area joins the brickwork of the house and on excavating i discover that the concrete slab extends about 300mm out into my paving area. However, it is a smooth finish on top but not on the edges. (pic below) I have since chipped off any excess on top to leave a smooth/flat finish.
I had now thought that i would use the top of this slab as my base height and would lay my bedding sand on this....
Is it ok to lay my road base in the hole and try to compact this down to the same height as the existing comcrete slab?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
