Team.

Long time no see.

Need a little advice on a small outdoor tiled patio with a badly chipped squared edge/face.

Wondering can I cut the flat surface edge tile with an angle grinder to replace with a step tread
tile to neaten up the area (edge)???

Will an angle grinder make a straight edge or should I try and use a heavy piece of flat steel as a guide.

Is it easy enough to also use the grinder to grind out all the cement grout to regrout the whole
area so it has a uniform colour so the new grouting around the step tread does not look like an add on.

Thanks Guys

safe new year.

Not to sure about an angle grinder easy to do damage with one. A small wet saw would be better. Use a guide to be

accurate. Clamp down a straight edge or get a couple of helpers to hold it. Removing grout try a multitool. Look in the tool

thread there is a currant thread there about it.

Thanks Goldie

I only have approx 2.5 metres to replace with tiled steptread so was hoping to get away with
an angle grinder and not to hire a tile saw.

As for the grouting it is cement so Im not sure how well a multitool would do, I have one but thought
a cement grinding disc on the grinder would work faster,

A grinder with a masonary disk for the grout should work but very easy to stray from the grout.

Using it with a diamond blade to cut the tiles you would need to rig up some sort of guide to keep it straight

update.

Did this yesterday with success.

Had a heavy piece of gal flat iron bar which I used as rule and guide , got a straight edge I was looking for.
Also used the grinder to take out the cement grout with out damaging any tiles, found if I cut in the
middle of the grout the vibration would take the rest of the grout from the tile edges so did not need
to go near the tile itself to clean the grout away.

To cut the edge try sticking a 150mm batten to the grinder guard with some Sikaflex FC11 as a guide, worked fine for me. But I do use grinders every day, you might like to have a little practice run first

Good luck. :)
