View Full Version : replacing old 240mm fascias (and guttering)

Hi Folks,

I wondering if anyone can offer any assistance/advice with respect to replacing existing fascias on our OB reno. The problem (I think) I have is that the old fascias are about 240mm high and have the guttering attached with about 150mm of fascia showing below the guttering - I was hoping to replace all the fascia and guttering with colourbond extrusion (such as from stramit or stoddarts) but it seems that the standard fittings have a 185mm fascia with the guttering attached via clips that would only leave about 50mm of fascia showing below guttering - net effect is that the guttering would be approx 55mm lower. I've attached an image of a section of the existing fascia/gutter to help.

So I guess my question is - if I install the standard fascia and gutter onto the existing (and new) rafters - will it cause a problem with the roof tiling? (ie. the roof tiles will have too much of a gap between the bottom of the last tile and the gutter).

Any suggestions on how I should progress?

My only other thought is to not use standard fascia, but install a timber fascia and get a colourbond flashing made up to cover the timber fascia (for maintenance reasons) and attach the gutter to that. Or get a guttering company to sort it out for me!?!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Cam

There is a "cover Fascia" available here, SteelSelect Product Listing - Fascia Covering - Fielders Steel Roofing (http://www.steelselect.com/products/detailedproduct.php?pid=247)

If the timber fascia you have now is structurally ok, you could fit this fascia and then hang the gutter at the same height.

The cover fascia would go high enough behind the gutter to do the job.

Thanks Bedford.

I probably should have pointed out more clearly that the replacement of existing fascia/gutter is probably only about a 1/4 of the whole job - so I'll only have existing timber fascia on the existing areas, unless I install timber fascia to the new areas too. The new areas will have the same problem, as the roof pitch is the same (approx 33 degrees) - although for the new areas I guess I can play with the eave heights a bit if using 185mm metal fascia.

Thanks for the SteelSelect link - although I couldn't see the profile height of the fascia cover - I'll look a bit further tonight.

I can't actually find it now either, but I'm sure it was 190mm high.
