i want to lay a merbau decking along the gravel pathway here all the way down the side about 30 metres, i want it to be level with the concrete pathway.
how do i go about laying the bearers for such a thing? do i need to excavate and dig a hole and concrete posts in every so often to screw the bearers to or how would i go about it??

Basically dig and concrete. See some of the threads on low decks.

Id do a floating deck. Dig in and lay (level) a few sleepers as joists (I'd use treated h'wood) then fix your decking to that. I've done it in the past and it comes up fine and the weight of the deck will prevent it moving anywhere.

Be aware that the Merbau tannins will probably stain your render when rain splashes it, and I'm thinking you get a bit of rain occasionally :)

:whs: Probably no need to fix to the ground or use concrete, posts etc - if that is a real slope and not just a camera angle then think about angling the bearers so water can still escape and not build up behind them. You could use H4 TP using joists only - just basically building a 'ladder' on the ground with joists across at 400-450 centres and decking running the length or if you want some long joists (bearers in this case, but I am suggesting you need just one sub-floor layer) again at 400-450 centres. If the latter then two on the outside and one in the middle looks about right. Just need to be able to hold it in place until all decking is fixed. You could drill some holes through and fix the sub-floor by using lengths of deformed steel bar into the ground - make sure you know where pipes/ wires etc are, but you only need go in 150-200mm.
