View Full Version : Help with prep of interior wall...

Hi guys,

Perhaps someone can help me out...

I have just had a new plasterboard ceiling installed in my unit (over old vermiculite) and the job also invoilved the plasterers removing a strip of vermiculite that ran along the tops of the walls. They have obviously repaired the strip with new plaster which is smooth as a baby's bum - the trouble is that the rest of the walls below this strip of plaster are actually cement rendered and as a result have a rougher finish.

My question is, when I repaint the walls is there something I can do to or product I can use on the plaster strip to give it a similar texture to the cement rendereded walls below it - I know when I have patched up holes in the walls before that the difference in texture is noticable - added to which I really don't fancy having to skim coat all the walls just so that they match up with the thin strip of plaster at the top!

Or, alternatively, is there a particular type of paint I can use on the walls which will give a more even appearnace overall?

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Thanks chaps.

Clive

Clive,
If you apply 1 or 2 coats of Solagard Stone finish as an undercoat to the smooth areas, this will leave a fine texture on the wall plaster and can be overcoated with your wall finish. Also using a matt paint instead of low sheen will help.

hi

you will want to make sure you use a wall board sealer, it allows the new surface to bond to further coatings of paint. depending on your budget you could use a stone effect similar to what "blocker" suggested or you can use a roll on texture. these types of texture paints can be tinted aswell, textures come in fine medium and course grades so you will simply have to match what you what.

hope this helps some
