View Full Version : Replace dwarf wall top with cedar

G'day everybody, first post and think I have the correct forum.

I'm replacing a thin pine top on a Gyprock dwarf wall. The builder didn't ask us any preference and stuck this wafer of pine on top. It
serves the purpose, but we like the aesthetics of a 40mm chunk of cedar.

What I'd like to ask is, which would be the best way to attach it to the top of the wall without the tell-tale signs of where the nails/screws are in the top?

I didn't want to fill with putty or filler as we are looking for a sleek look and clean top. The grain on the wood is great and I didn't wan to scar it with filled holes. If I have to, I'll have to. Just wanted to put it out there to see if anyone has had this request before.

Ideally, I'd like to come up from underneath and screw into it through the frame but the Gyprock is there now and would be a pain to
pull it down and set again.

Below is a pic of the wall as it is now. I'm about to remove the top once I finish this post and start cuttin' up the cedar.

Any clues appreciated.

cheers

G'day,

Just stick it on, apply the glue then weight down with something heavy, bricks or tins of paint. We did it at work and used liquid nails, been there 10 years never moved. I'd biscuit or dowel the mitre join with polyurethane glue first, sand and then install with liquid nails. Cedar is soft and tears/chips easily, the less you do to it the better.
