Laminate look in real timber flooring

Hi Guys,

We are looking at ripping out the carpet in our house and replacing it with floor boards. The issue i have is the wife likes the grey/black coloured flooring, which i have been only able to find in laminate. I would prefer to install real timber as i like to do the job properly the first time.

The question I have is it possible to use a coloured stain to get a grey/blackish colour in the floor boards rather than the natural timber colour which my wife does not like..

The answer is yes, but if IMO if you are going to ruin good timber by making it look like laminate why not save yourself the grief and just give in to your wife's poor taste . . . :-
