Hello Chaps,
Now I'm talking about Concrete "Dye" here, as opposed to either Acid-Stain or Oxide Powder...
You use the stuff on already-hardened concrete, rather than mix it in with wet concrete (such as what you do with Oxide Powder). It doesn't actually chemically react as such with the lime in the concrete (like an Acid-Stain does), but rather it apparently just permeates the surface of the concrete and deposits itself there in an intensity that gives a much more solid and vivid colour than does an Acid-Stain.
It also appears that the stuff comes in two varieties; water-based and solvent-based (Surprise Surprise!), and from what I can gather, the solvent-based version provides greater opacity due to it's thinner (and thus more penetrating) consistency. So if possible, I'd like to lay hands on the "solvent" type, because I need a very solid finish to the colour, rather than some artsy-fartsy "translucent-marbled" look...
Only problem is - where to buy the stuff?...
I rang Lyndon's at Windsor today, and they didn't have anything in the category, and neither did Bunnings .
So who else on this side of town might carry some? :?
If you know of any brand-names in the category, that would be good too...
Many Thanks,
Batpig.
