HI
We are building a granny flat in the yard and have 2 big windows 315 h x 2400 long and a sliding door 1800 w. It is weathertex cladding, timber frame and gyprock.
The builder doesnt want to use reveals on all the aluminium windows and doors.
Can someone advise of the benefits (or not) of this? would it create a sleeker, smoother modern look not using them?

I am not sure, I obviously dont understand enough and dont want to be taken advantage of.
Can you advise on best finish with no reveals? And the advantages over reveals or not?
regards and many thanks

He maybe returning the plasterboard as reveals. Quite an acceptable option. Ask him for more details, before he goes on. He shouldn't mind explaining. Is it a fixed quote....what has he quoted on? Are there drawings and do they show the window details?
Sorry, I can't be much more help.

My house has no reveals, plaster corner and return to window. My earlier house had reveals and architave.
One is more work for the plasterer the other more work for the chippy. Can't think of any advantage of one over the
other. Just an appearance thing.

I spoke to builder - Windows are face fixed and has given me the option that they can either have revels installed at a fit of stage or they can be square set with plaster board.
I still have the option of the large bathroom window 315 h x 2400 w to have reveals, walls will be tiled so maybe a square set would look flush and clean lines in there.
I am wondering what are reveals used for ? is it just for looks? Is there a preference for square set or reveals added later?
Ive been googling and some people seem to have cracks appearing?

My place is thirty years old no cracks in the plaster.

A disadvantage to plaster that I imagine is, it's not as durable as timber, especially on a horizontal surface where moisture sits (bathroom/steam) and you have to clean it all the time.

If I was square setting windows in a bathroom I would tile it completely, back to the window. A lot of public buildings are done this way. Also helps combat the issue shauk mentions.
