Hi all,

We have just purchased a 2600L steel water tank and now need to organise the concrete base for the tank to stand on.

Approx measurements for the slab are 1.1m x 2.7m & 6 inches thick. It needs to be 25mpa concrete and be reinforced with F72 mesh half way through.

Our first quote came back as $500, with the explanation that given it is a small job, the concreters have to pay penalty rates for having such a small load delivered - is this correct? Can anyone tell me is this is a reasonable quote for this job?

Any feedback is appreciated

What does the $ 500 cover ? You are looking at just under 0.5 cubic metres of concrete which is roughly $250 for a mini mix truck.

Poured a similar slab for a tank not long ago, $130 mini-mix, $50 reo, 2 blokes labour. $500 very much on the money.

Thanks all - the $500 includes all materials and labour... we got another quote last week that came in at almost $800! Think we will be sticking with the first quote, it seemed expensive initially but now hapy to take it if we know that is the standard price!

Why not do it yourself? Just get a mate and a second wheelbarrow. Doing formwork isn't hard but use screws and not nails as it is then stronger and easier to take off.

I also hope that whoever is optioning the tank fittings and doing the installation knows what they are doing as just about every install l see is sub standard. Now is the time to get it right.
