Hi I have macracarpa bench tops and my cooktop is stainless steel my builder installed it and 2 years on my bench starts to smoke when you use any of the left side hot plates. I think thats because on the right it has the dials as a buffer to the bench. Does anyone know what the proper way is to install the cook top in a timber bench I don't think it was done properly, please help??

I don't know that it's an electrician issue I think it's a builder installation issue there is no insulation as such between the bench top and the cook top. it's just been put in a cut out directly in the bench and the entire cook top gets hot when your cooking.

What you are describing is typical of most installed cooktops they would be dropped into a cut out. See if you can download installation instructions or contact the manufacturer to see if additional shielding is required. Generally a cooktop should not be capable of getting that hot under normal use. I would not be starting on this site, your first point of call when in doubt should be the manufacturer, you seem to have a serious fire risk if this unit can generate enough heat to smoke wood and it may well be faulty.
