I have been doing some research and found horrible reviews on the very few available all gas upright ovens/makes.Has anyone got any good experiences to lead me towards a make of oven for about $2500 and under.I spose more bad reviews are always good too in case I am leaning towards the wrong company's product.Starting to have no idea what to do.

G'day,

Think you answered your own question, go electric for the oven unless there's a reason you can't of course?

Better control of temp, and more features generally on the oven.

We've only had to set up for 1 gas oven/hotplate in the last 5 years, so as you say not many out there... Many of the 900 uprights from Europe share basic components, as in the all the guts inside, only the outside sheetmetal/look of the appliance is different.

I like E&S trading. They sell good gear, and the staff are knowledgeable. They aren't cheap, but do cater for all budgets. If you want to look at productreview.com.au, they have good and bad comments about a lot of different applicances.

We have an upright range, gas cooktop and electric over, very serviceable even for Moondog, who's a chef. Any reason why you don't want electric oven?

The issue is with the quality of the result - I am no chef but I have researched appliances for some years and believe the following to be GENERALLY true:

Induction cooktops are the best for precise temperature control
Gas cooktops are a great second place getter but less efficient than induction
Electric takes additional skill to ensure control is maintained and residual heat causes a lot of "lag" when adjusting temperature - and this is the most expensive method

Gas ovens are good for producing very moist results, but not much else ...

Electric ovens generally produce far more even results, especially fan-forced ones - but if you are a real fan of baking, non-fan-forced may be better - at $2500 and 900mm wide you couldn't fit a double oven that has both, though you could add a convection-microwave or for example a Miele combi (wall) oven at a later stage.

BTW - I have never found out if the user can control the fan in a fan-forced oven but I don't believe so ... I have checked various websites to find out but nothing indicates that the fan can be switched off, so perhaps not.

QUESTIONS

Do you need an upright stove style unit or is it because you have an existing space you wish to fill etc.?

Would you consider high-end USED appliances? There are a number available that I know of (and have, but this is NOT an ad) but some people refuse to use appliances that have been previously installed.

Is your home old? I ask because you may be trying to recreate a certain "look" and a stove often helps in that quest.

best of luck

... and here's a little eye candy for anyone who likes old stoves - in the case of these units, old does NOT equal cheap

FYI, the lower end of the 900w upright ranges (we have Omega, which comes from the same factory as SMEG, and a few others which I have forgotten) the fan keeps running when you open the door. I really dislike this, and next time buying fan forced would make sure that whatever we buy has a fan that stops when the door is opened, if the oven is still switched on.

I have an omega 900mm gas top elec oven which you will find as common combo.the only thing I don't like is the cool down process of the oven as the fan runs for a few mins after you turn it off otherwise no issues.
