Now that the plastering is finished, I have a bucket that has dried cornice cement entrenched to it. Is there an easy way to get rid of the cement?

Probably more trouble than its worth. Was it an expensive bucket? Mine cost about 80cents...

G'day,

Let it go hard over a few days then put it upside down on the ground and give it a whack with your hand or a rubber mallet, soak the empty bucket in hot water and scrub with a scourer to remove any residue. Works for me...

We just bang it on the ground upside down it usually comes out in one big hunk.

Thanks guys, I've got the bigger pieces out but what about all the other residue ie the small bits that are stuck on the walls of the bucket, is warm water and a scraper the way to go?

This^^

Just scrape the sides with broadknife(i use a 4" usually) If its rock hard, fill it up and let it soak over night and scrape it the next day

Thanks CPE, it is rock hard. I'll let it soak and then scrape it off. I heard that in order to prevent the cement sticking I could spray some vegetable oil on it before mixing up the cement, maybe try that next time.

I can understand tradies not wasting buckets everyday, but you're saving hundreds, maybe thousands of $$$ DIYing. You CAN afford to forget about this bucket :)

If the bucket can't be saved that's fine but I've already got the bucket and if it doesn't take long to restore then I'm happy to try and do that.
