Hi
Anyone please tell me if I need a building permit to remove an internal door (one of two) from the hallway into our lounge and then cover both sides of the doorway with plasterboard to make it a smooth wall both sides?
The internal wall the door is in is load bearing but I won't be touching any structural elements - just removing the door itself so I can cover the opening.
Thanks

no issues. Door areas are non load bearing, if there is a load a lintle would accomodate the load above anyway. Depending on the area to be filled in is it worth replacing the gyprock section to allow for a horizontal join. It could be messy patching the old doorway, consider this as gyprock is cheap.

Have just done this to two doors. I built a small stud wall out of treated pine to fill the gap and provide support to secure the gyprock. Then gyprocked over the top. Easy job, good result!

Agreed, how many doors does one room need? I'm sure it has windows too!
