I'm building an 8m x 2.7m deck with an Alsynite covered pergola about 2.1m wide (hanging off the fascia board)
Each bearer is 2 x 140 x 45 F7 Treated pine supported on 90mm wide stirrups.
Ideally, I'd like to sit the bottom flanges for the stirrups for the 90x90 pergola posts on top of the bearer, directly above the stirrup supporting the bearer in the ground. Can anyone see a problem in doing this? I was wondering if the compression loading on the bearer would be too much for treated pine, although it is clamped by the stirrup and I could put an anti-crush plate on top to spread the load. It's too close to the ground to hang the bearer off the pergola post.
