Confusion to sand or not sand weatherboards after reading forums.

Hi,
After trawling through the posts looking for the best way to paint weatherboards, I have noticed that some say always to sand and some say only to sand if the paint is in really poor condition.

So my question is, to sand or not to sand, and why?

If yor paint is in good condition, you need to sand a bit to make the new paint stick to the old- that's a light sand. Most of the threads on this forum talk about sanding back to bare wood, which is what you need to do if the paint is failing. Big job, not much fun!
