Hello from Rozellle
I am a tiling virgin , I have never laid a single tile in my 59 years on this earth.

However SWMBO does not think that is an acceptable excuse. She seems to think that just because I am proficient in: sheetmetal work, fitting and machining, panelbeating, plumbing, basic electrical repairs, motor mechanics, woodwork and carpentry, that I ought to able to tile a kitchen floor.

Apart from knowing I've got to remove the old tiles I haven't got a clue.

Please advise me on the best course of action.

We need a bit more info, tiles on slab or timber? Do the cabinets sit on the tiles or are they cut in?
If height isn't an issue and existing are sound you can lay over.

Tiling a floor is not difficult. I agree with your wife. With all your skills and a few tools it should be a piece of cake

but as cherub65 says we need more info

Thank You cherub65,

The tiles are laid on a slab, and there is a grout line wherever the cabinets and tiles meet so I think it is safe to say the tiles are cut in. Te existing tiles are loose in places and one is badly cracked, tilies are 300mm square approx. Tiling over the top is not an option.

Hi Gerard,
Bite the the bullet and rip them up. If they are directly stuck to the slab your job will be some what easier, Floor will have to be cleaned back to flat stable base, remove glue. The better your prep the easier the laying.
If they laid a screed over the slab you may have to level parts once you pull up, really depends what sticks to what.

Why not post a pic , select what tile size you want and we will be able to guide you through set out
