Hello, I've just got planning permission from my local council and I've found myself sitting here thinking "what next?". I've asked a couple of questions here on my planning application but now I think it's time to become active here and start asking questions and learning.

Briefly, I've got an inner city Victorian weatherboard which has planning permission for partial demolition and building a new structure at the rear. I engaged a draftsman to translate my idea into drawings and those drawings have been approved. I wasn't sure what council would permit so I've not invested any more time or money in the next steps or really any details at all. The draftsman has finished his involvement as well. My vague plan is to project manage the build, lining up tradesman to perform the various tasks. Where do I start though? Are there any good books, resources, spreadsheets, etc I should begin with?

Cheers

Before you get to far have you worked out what finishes, colours, hardware, glazing etc you are going to have. If all you have is a broad plan and no real detail you have nothing to take to the trades. Have you considered insurance during the build, safety requirements etc.

i'd suggest you might contact a builder let them look at your plans and go from there. I don't have any references although hopefully there will be others that can help there.

The planning permit says that it is approved to proceed, you or a builder will need a building permit as the next step.

If you're going to do this as an owner builder, firstly you'll need a Certificate of Consent before applying for a building permit.

There is some info here, Building Commission - Restrictions (http://www.buildingcommission.com.au/www/html/2004-restrictions.asp)
