G'Day All,

Have been a subbie carpenter for around 20 years and have started our own construction business 2 weeks ago called Combined Building and Services. The name combined because we do our own electrical, plumbing, plastering and what ever else we can learn. We believe that the first time you may not be good at it, but the second time you are a bit better, the third time a bit better and so on and so on. We love to learn off every one, i have learn't more watching apprentices, ownerbuilders, clients and other tradies and especially my own mistakes. I truly believe Australia has lost a bit of the," Have a go " attitude that built this great country. I also believe they have purposely dumbed down the trades to be able to specialize everything and make more money. I see pre fab frames come with as many tie downs, nuts, bolts and a complete over kill of timber, because the more they can add on to a frame the more money they can make.
We have started our own business as i have found it harder and harder to get paid on time by builders. Years ago it was very different as you would finish your job and then get paid, these days most builders only pay when they have been paid by the progress payment. or at the end or begining of every month and if your lucky!
When i see owner builders be able to build some incredible, and complex jobs, it just inspires me to want to learn more and have a go. As a tradie sometimes we tie ourselves down to just one trade and lock into that one trade mindset, i know i have.

I look forward to learning off this forum from DIY's,tradies, builders and hope fuly we can pass on some helpful information.

Thanks:)
