Would like an american barn or aussie barn 12mx7m but can't seem to find one that does not have the two posts that support the center portal frame. Has anybody seen a brand or shed people that could do that? Got a quote for 10k for full colourbond kitset. 3 rollers with a PA door. Delivered too. they seem to design them by building a center shed and then adding two lean too's

Hi manofaus, I wrote an article on my blog about american and aussie barns last year. You can find it here (http://www.shedblog.com.au/american-barn-or-an-aussie-barn-which-shed-do-you-need/) if you wanted to read it. All portal frame sheds of this nature use centre columns.
It might be possible to create what you want with roof trusses but you would end up with the bottom cord of the truss eating into your clearances.
Essentially the idea behind the centre columns is to give the ability to create a higher clear open section in the centre whilst providing somewhere for the lower (we dont need the shed to be so high here) annexe rafters to attach.
It may also be possible to have custom engineering done to provide transfer beams to remove some columns but this would be an expensive process.

I was thinking of an open web truss that is supported by the front and rear posts, so you can still have the clearance down the center.

I have an american style barn that is 11m by 9.15m. I enquired about removing the 4 centre posts and they said that is was possible so i got two quotes, one with the posts and one without. It worked out to be about $13000 with posts and $16000 without posts for the kit delivered. They achieved it by increasing the size of most structual members as well as increasing the thickness of the wall cladding. The attach points between perimeter posts and rafters etc was different as well. It was Eureka sheds that could do it but they have have gone to standardised dimensions now so it might not be possible.

Pretty sure Tri-Steel do a clearspan barn.

I can't vouch for them (maybe someone else here can say what they are like to deal with).

The hopleys truss will work, just need to weld cleats to them for installation. Price for the truss was 375 each. Bargain.

I believe Tri-Steel parent company went belly up, various dealers still exist but using different manufacturer.

Thanks SB.
There's been a bunch of local shed builders go broke over here in the last year as well. Pretty tough out there trying to get any sort of capital improvement $ at present. And we are in the "boom" state, WA.
The problem is that, for the first time for people of my generation (Gen x-ers) property has gone backwards, and I think that has scared most of them into working off the mortgage first; rather than being able to re-finance an appreciating property and just buy more stuff.
