Hi All,
Well I am prepared and ready to go with a Napsian wash, then an Oxalic wash for my new deck. After these two washes, I will sand (40 grit, then 60 grit) the deck before i apply the decks first oiling since being put down....it was laid about 3 months ago.

Questions:
Do I have these steps in the right order?
Do i need to perform the two washes even though i am sanding the deck...(not really questioning it, just would like to know what the two washes do that sanding alone would not achieve)
I am also making sure i am not wasting my time or going overboard.

Thanks in advance.

If interested, deck is Spotted Gum and I am using Sikkens Cetol HLS (natural) for base coat followed by two coats of Sikkens CETOL Deck Plus (natural).

Thanks

I would sand it first with 80 grit as it is a new deck that has just been exposed to some weather. If it is how you say it is 40&60 may be a liitle more aggressive than what is needed. You can napisan it and oxalic acid it if you want. It won't hurt but I don't think it is needed as the sanding is the brightening agent.
You may have others will tell you that the napisan will bring up the tanins. Yes it will and will keep bringing them up 10 or more times if you keep applying napisan. The weathering process is also suppose to do this as well. I would just sand it,clean off the dust and get it coated asap after the sanding.
Best of luck

Thanks for both of the responses. Exactly what I wanted to hear.

Nice.
I used 2 coats of Integrain Ultradeck and really happy with the results. I lost traction after the deck so it is fully exposed to the sun/rain last 3 months and still looks really good. Roof going up in the next month or so...
