Hi All
Caution I will ask questions that are possibly stupid-there is only so much info I can get by doing internet searches:) and i've always found you learn more asking silly questions ;-)
So because I am trying to get ahead of myself I am troubleshooting our ensuite layout etc before the walls are even up (hopefully that starts next week). So we have what I think is a large ensuite with cavity sliding door. To the left of door is a 900mm wide nib wall that starts 1m into room(have no idea why but we are finding this is one of the many joys of a kit home). My idea (and it makes hubbies eyes roll) is to put toilet in this area (so between entrance wall and nib wall) with vanity on the opposite right hand wall. Then I was thinking of turning the back area of the ensuite into a wet area with freestanding bath and walk in shower. Possibly having walk in shower on the back of the nib wall with glass screen. The back wall has a window and bathtub could sit under there.
Sorry I don't have any design type software to even attempt to put this into a picture
My issue is what exactly is needed to achieve this in the easiest possible way. Maybe screed the walk in shower area to create the right fall and then just tile the rest of the bathroom without any fall? Or should the whole floor area have fall on it towards the back towards the bath with maybe a waste in the floor there as well?? Can I get away with only tiling the wall where the shower is and the floor and painting the rest?

What have I possibly not thought of -problems etc

There is a download called Open Office (Free download) That has a basic drawing programme included. It is very simple to run, and even a basic drawing using that will help us all to understand your layout.
If your boys are over 8 then they will show you how to run it......fairdinkum..........:rotfl:

My first question is, do you need to have a bathtub or do you love to have a soak? Are you able to delete the nib wall or is it structural? What are the dimensions of the room? Are you able maybe to put part of the plans on a scanner? I love designing bathrooms and have always wanted an enormous space that I could bang around in, rather than a teeny tiny place that is barely big enough to wield a towel in.

The only thing I would insist on, in my house, is not to have the bathroom window in (or too close to) the shower.

Thanks watson will have a look and see if I can use the program-I have no doubt my boys could show me if I let them near my laptop lol

Are you able to delete the nib wall or is it structural? I am not sure. It would be good in some ways if it was gone but how it is now with the idea I have it would hide the toilet from the shower and bath.
What are the dimensions of the room? 2770x3400

I will have a go at using the program Watson mentioned and see how I go.

We have always been in rental houses where even if there was an ensuite it was always a tiny thing with shower and toilet. This thing is bigger then the main bathroom. This is the house

as you can see it has a layout in it that doesn't have to be followed. We are keeping the main bathroom as per their suggestion but I really don't like the suggested layout for the ensuite

The .pdf gives me an idea. let me play with the design a little and will post something later. Now I understand the "nib wall", it's to create a shower recess. If your roof is trusses, the internal walls will likely be non-loadbearing. If you can move the nib wall a little, toilet can go in there into its own little room with door.

yes that was sort of the idea-put toilet where they have put shower recess. hmmm might have to make a phone call and see if it can be moved as 1009 is nowhere near enough room for toilet damn didn't think of that-maybe 400 more might give enough room. Yes roof is trusses so that wall should be non loadbearing

What do you think about this? The shower is a wet area with no glass or curtain. Where I have the dimension line in the bath/shower area, you could put a strip floor drain there. The programme I used only has that oval bath but any bath would do. The dimensions of the bath are 1200 x 1200 on the wall edges. I'm not overly fond of having a window in or near the shower, but with a shower head on the long wall you can avoid most of the splash on the window frame.

wow-i cannot even try to recreate that with anything I try lol thanks

This gives me a more visual idea of what I was aiming for. I was going to go for just a single basin (stuff having 2 to clean lol). The bath I have been looking at is a egg shaped type thing 1710x910 which could definitely go along the wall next to vanity. I never thought about just having the shower open as mentioned in original post I thought about putting the shower off the nib wall and put a glass screen in. If the floor has a fall into the shower-I'm not a fan of those long drains- will we need to create fall in the rest of the bathroom towards this area or would it be better to have possibly a waste in another part of room?

I have found more questions lol
What is minimum dimensions that will work around the toilet?
How much tiling HAS to be done in bathrooms? I would prefer just to tile floors and the wall where the shower goes and then paint the rest-will that work?
What is easiest way to create floor ready for tiling that has all the required fall? We have yellow tongue down at the moment-what are our options?

If you do put in a bath that size, you will not have enough room to walk between the bath and the glass you want for the shower. In my opinion, I would stay with a corner bath, which gives you a ton more room. Do you not like the wet area concept, or had you just not considered it?

Here's another idea.

Damn mobile internet- hate it when you reply then lose it

Anyway yes love the open shower like the first one-just always thought you had to have some sort of division (like the glass screen) but if I don't then that's one less thing to buy and install (which will please hubby too).
Might take a tape measure and scribble over the yellow tongue tomorrow and see what I can do with the space.

Use masking tape instead of drawing on the floor, and make some full-size stencils for the loo (about 450w x 750l) and bath out of newspaper that you can move around. As for the size of the toilet enclosure, if you do the cavity slider you could probably get away with 850-900mm wide x 1500 long. Any shorter than this and your legs might feel cramped (unless you are quite short!)

lol I am what you would call vertically challenged but hubby is average so better make it big enough.
Never thought of doing templates-bet kids will have fun helping me with that.

Have the ok to move that wall wherever we like!! So happy about that. Did some measuring up on the floor and everything will fit where I want it. Will double check again once wall frames are in so I can get a feel of what it will be like to move around in the space.
Going to post my tiling questions in the tiling section.
Thanks Cecile for doing up those drawings

Well, seeing as I'm restricted by this horrible knee injury from doing too much, I was happy to fire up the drawing programme and do a few sketches. Always happy to help other folks spend their hard-earned!
