Hi all,

Wondering if anyone was watching the block last night and noticed the deck fixing method Lara was using ? It was a black strip fixed to the side of the joist with little upstand clips for the decking to clip in ? Does anyone know what this product is called?

You can see the black strips in the background of these pics:

I've seen the same stuff at Bunnings. Just did our deck-probably should have thought about getting some lol

Not a product i'd rate imo, at least it made it easier for them to rip up the boards to fix their mistake of not leaving a gap for airflow...

they are the technoplastics deck spacers - you can get them for the standard size boards - you still need to screw or nail the decks into place but they are handy it your doing it by yourself - remember you will need to make sure you have all the spacers rightangled and paralleled in the first instance other wise you will have to keep moving them

its called JET DECK and apparently protect the bearers from water

The KlevaKlip system is a similar product. Instead of going on the side of the joists it sits on top. The finished deck looks pretty awesome with no visible srews or nails but it comes at a price....both products aren't cheap.

This looks like a nice system but as with all these systems you have to use their boards, as these have been profiled on the sides to suit the fastening, and these usually come at a premium to boards you can pick up at any timber merchant, so what you save in labour you may lose in timber cost.

At least it looks like you can remove a board later on if a problem arises without too much hassle, KlevaKlip systems interlock each board and would be difficult to remove a board in the middle if a problem arises.

Problem I can see, what happens when the boards start to slightly warp, there is nothing physically holding the boards face down to minimise this, other then that it looks good.

There is so many of these hidden fastening systems around, each has its advantages and dis advantages.
Have a look at the Camo system, we have used it and it worked well, boards easily removed later if required without disturbing the adjacent boards.

Ive never tried any of these 'screwless' systems but would like to put my two cents in and say that I used one of these Snappy countersinks when I made my deck and it saved me a lot of time as I could adjust the head to the depth I wanted and the tungsten blades gave a nice sharp cut.

These bits are GOLD, I spent ages looking for a place to buy them, finally found a place near Frankston whilst on a job out there, then a couple of weeks later Bunnings started stocking them...

Hmm. Looks good, a fantastic concept.... but it makes me wonder how the deck will be in 10yrs once the boards have dried out in the sun and shrunk slightly. Are they going to start getting loose?
