Hi, I can't seem to find reliable documents online regarding minimal distance from bolt to other edge of the wood, and between bolts.
I'm trying to fix roof beams onto a post and not sure if I want to join the timbers so all four beams are on the same height (this I believe is the neater look) but my posts are only 100mm x 100mm and I'm intending to use 2 x M12 bolts per beam (so 4 bolts per post). I'm worried that there might not be enough distance between bolts and bolts to post edge and end up compromising the integrity.

Looking for advice and wondering if anyone has done something similar. Or maybe some sort of bracket is available?

Similar to this, but I can't find a photo online with bolts...

Sorry don't have the exact info you're after but have you already checked out the posts? If it was me, I wouldn't check the post out to the full depth of the beam. Maybe half. This would give you more post for your 4 bolts.

in AS1684 in the uplift resistance section there are detail Dwgs of timber bolt requirements for beams & posts.

Use 50 x 50 x 5mm angle.

Use 50 x 50 x 5mm angle.

Whoa, she's a bit skinny up the top now:D. I'd do as cherub suggested with the 50x50x5 angle. 4 bolt hot dipped bracket, 2 bolts through the front beam and post and bracket on back of the post, then 2 bolts through the other beam into the bracket

off memory the post can be checked out 1/3 of thickness of post.

Really should be min 50mm left in this situation.
