We have been working on our kitchen detail plan for ages. The room is essentially 6 x 4 metres, L-shaped kitchen with large island bench. We don't want anything in the island (cooktop or sink) because the island will double as a sewing/cutting bench for me. Microwave and dishwasher (900w single dish drawer) are opposite stove and opposite sink respectively. I want drawers everywhere, Ted wants open shelves so we have more or less gone half and half. He does most of the cooking and cleaning, and his commercial cooking comfort zone has dictated a lot of what we've done, including the small prep sink. That said, there's no separate pantry storage and at the moment no allowance to put our commercial wire racking.

Although I can't seem to get the tile splashback to render correctly, and the colours on this monitor don't appear to be true, it's basically what we want. Benches will be a stone-look laminate, cabinets bright white with stainless bar handles, stainless IKEA rails and shelving (we already have them, the stove will stay, we'll add an extra wall oven) and Ted's pots and utensils hanging mostly behind the sink that is near the fridge. Open shelves under sinks and in the corner. Floor most likely white tile. There's a window to the right of the wall oven, and a skylight above the bench.

You have all given very good opinions before, would be open for them again. Many thanks.

Hi Cecile, what program are you using for your conceptuals? Is it sketch up?

Thanks Tom, very good point. I know it's not ideal unless there's a filler next to the wall. Where else would you put it? We've done this kitchen over and over again, and for Ted's ideal work triangle the position of appliances and sinks as shown is non-negotiable. The wall oven however is mainly for me, for baking, and I'm not too fussed where it is, as long as it's at a reasonable height for easy access. It could of course go next to the fridge but then we'd lose valuable prep space.

For our drawings, I'm using an old version of Chief Architect. I wish I could afford to buy the new one!

Yep, that's the sink. We'll have to reinforce the front edge of the cabinet but it'll work a treat.

We won't bother with the instant boil tap, since it's just as easy (and more economical) to have an electric kettle. We'll have some sort of under cabinet work lights, possibly LED fluoro...depends on the $$$ available.

Why not try and turn the 2nd oven to a 45 (or even 33) degree angle away from the return wall in the same location....much like those corner pantries? Use the remaining length of the return wall to avoid eating too much into the space on the other side

I had a look on this website in their flat pack kitchen catalogue they have some other ideas that you may find useful.

Kitchen Concepts NSW (http://www.kitchen-concepts.com.au)

It gave me some other ideas when I was planning my kitchen.
