Hi all,

I'm in the process of renovating our 1940's home and one of the many tasks that is on the list is to smooth up and paint all of the internal timberwork. After seventy plus years, virtually every architrave, skirting board and door frame has been beat to death and has damage ranging from minor dents through to deep gouges. I was hoping that you might be able to suggest a good easy to work with timber putty that can be used for filling in these sorts of imperfections. Ideally something that can be screed on and quickly sanded back. Thanks in advance,

Shaun

Timbermate is nice to work with and is water based so you can paint over with acrylic undercoats. It comes in a heap of different colours. To make it easy to work with, fill your sink with hot hot water and leave the tub to stand in it for a while to soften. I apply it using a paint scraper for a nice smooth finish- a quick sand and it is ready to go.
