View Full Version : OK for waterproofing to peel off?

Hi all,
I wonder if new waterproofing that can be peeled quite easily off a render is an acceptable thing?
Here is what I mean:
My tiler has partially waterproofed the bathroom (using Dampfix Gold, with proper priming, as he says). Then a plumber had to do some work on a copper line and broke small area of render that had waterproofing on it. Now if I try pulling the waterproofing film by its edge at that area, it just goes on and comes off the rest of the render (together with a bit of render stuff) with very little effort. This makes me a little concerned when I think that heavy tiles are going to sit on that waterproofing. If it's not that strong now, what will happen in a couple of years?
I always thought that each next layer of render, waterproofing, tilles, etc. must be dead solid, almost impossible to separate from the layer beneath.
Could it be that the render is too weak? Or the priming it inadequate? Should I sand it before waterproofing?
Please advise!

You could try in the bathroom forum. Oldsalts oz can be found there. He should know

If the waterproofing is not secure, anything put over it (tiles) will not be secure.

I would rip it up and replace it with a product that will work. What sort of warranty are you getting?

Good luck. :)
