Hi

I've looked through the forum (well got up to page 11) and I can't find a post on the pros and cons of each decking board timber.

We are currently in the process of getting prices for a deck (have ordered a Lysaght Living Collection Roof after looking at options from Apollo to local builder) - and have had a varying opinions on use of Merbau vs Treated Pine.

Cost is a big factor - Merbau would take us over budget but doable. But I have that sustainable logging thought sitting in the back of my mind....
Does Treated Pine still have a lot of cons despite being undercover?
Is there another timber sitting between the 2 that would give me the feel good sustainable logging thoughts?

Any thoughts - pros and cons - firsthand observations gratefully received! :U

Spotted gum / Ironbark. Far superior timber IMO and sustainable and local

Agree with Stevoh. Treated pine decking is rubbish and to avoided at all costs. The Kwila is still excellent timber. Durable, cheap and stable - but its not ethical to use it. Doesn't stop 90 % of pros and DIYers though as money, unfortunately, talks.
