I want to extend my roof over part of my deck (maybe 1-2 meters)

I want to avoid putting extra supporting posts in as the deck is already down

The roof is tin, can i just take the old tin off (it is wearing a bit)

Then bolt some 2x4 H3 TP onto the existing rafters, put some new tin over, gutter etc and then done?

can't really cantilever a roof that far without some engineering. Genarally structural stuff needs a development application

In short you can do it but it's not legal or safe

Damo,

You need to ask yourself a few questions first. Will you kick yourself after its finished and say that looks a bit bodgy? Given the roof is down have a look at the design sizes you are currently using, as the verandah beam (the one between the posts) is not going to change size as this determines the post spacing on a given span RLW. The rafters will generally overhang this beam approx 1/3 of their length but this is determined by thier spacing and reduces as the span gets bigger. So it might mean that if you replace every 2nd one you could get that extra roof coverage for the same size.
You could use bugle screws eg a 1 m overhang and 1m on the rafter screwed to get an extension but it would look sh@#t house, unless you put a ceiling on it, again if you look at the total cost it would be cheaper to replace the rafters (longer ones)

If you are using tin then I suggest you get some colorbond or steel as it wont corrode like tin does :D
