Wondering if anyone has any ideas and thoughts on building a Rabbit/Guinea Pig Hutch/Cage As I need to make 2 in the next few weeks for Daughter and Grand Daughter

I remember I build one as a kid out of a packing crate that I cut the side out of it and covered it with mesh that became the bottom so the Guinea Pig could eat the grass.
The other sides I cut Half the sides out and covered with mesh so they had half shelter and half open.
Cannot find any suitable packing crate

A mate of mine built one out of a old wardrobe
Great Idea till it rained
(It was made of chipboard)

Hi Nev.

From past experiences with wood, I'd look at gal mesh as an alternative, easy to grind / bend panels to size & top it with a section of corrigated tin or similar.

Have a look at some rabbit hutches in pet stores to get an idea of size & shapes.

Main reason is hygene . Poop & old straw can be removed for composting, then hose & sun dry the cage, whereas timber will absorb the nasties & may fall apart from wet weather.

I fixed lawn mower wheels at one end to move it about, esp into shade on hot days.

Cheers Cam

Depends on how much room you have. A mate of mine has converted an old tool shed into a two tier rabbit hutch or as we like to call it the bunny house complete with mezanine!

There is enough room to walk in the door and the bunny area is in a L shape at two levels. I actually reckon you could do 4 levels and have more - but hey I don't eat rabbit!

Check out the ABC web site as they had a plan for a mobile chook house. The same principle applies for bunnies and the design was pretty good.
