I have just had some plastering done and when i had a close look and feel i have noticed in quite a few places that the tape is showing through and it feels rough. (looks rough too!) Surely this can not be right? I do not know much about plastering but in my opinion it does not look right and will show through when i paint the walls?

I have also han new cornice done around my kitchen and at the corner where it joins it looks and also feels rough....please correct me if im wrong but should they not smoothen it of when finished?

Maybe im just being picky but there was quite a lot of plaster dried on to the shirtings and onto my brand new kitchen, surely that is not right either? I know if it was me doing the job as a tradesman for somebody else it would of been a lot better job done than what i have ended up with!
Please tell me your opinions!

Obviously a bad job. My opinion?

Yes the tape will still show after it is painted.

Do not pay the contractor until it is fixed. Then get someone who knows what they are looking at to check the work.

Often a bad job does not show up untill after the job is painted and the lights go on.

Sometimes I wonder if there would be a job/business in inspecting plastering work for faults before payment is made to contractors. It would certainly save a lot of problems after painting. Maybe I will offer that service on my web site! So often people just accept the poor workmanship because of the thought of having to re-paint.
