Hey Guys,

I need some advise please if this is achievable myself or should get and expert in to do the job. My knowledge about construction is about 5/10 as I have completed slabs, form-work myself so far.

I have a front Patio area on a raised slab to the entry of my house.
5m long x 3.20 wide

Thinking of using 90mm x 45mm timber for the construction.

I want to tie in the new roof into the existing roof section of the house. The roof will have tiles on the top of it later on.
Thinking of some brick poles to support the structure then rendering them later on.

I will have Council approval and plans shortly for this project.

Question:
1. Could anyone give me some advice if this achievable on my own or should I get a builder / carpenter to tackle it.

2. How do you tie in the new roof to the existing roof.

Welcome to the forum Jet Pilot
You should be able to construct it yourself, if you are not to sure just read any and all info you can find, and also seek advice from anybody you can find who does know how to do it. (Use your judgement here, not everybody who thinks they know how to do it really does know how to do it)

As to your second question I'm sure we could help, however further information would be required.
A drawing of your proposed construction relative to the existing house would help, also some detail of the type of construction of the house and the patio.

Hey,

Thank you for the reply.

Attached is a plan of my house -Front View.

The Patio that I would like cover is outlined in red.

I was thinking a hipped roof for this section tied into the existing roof....then at the front of the patio about 1.5m stepping out a gable roof entrance section on brick poles. Also some brick poles along the side of the length of the patio holding up the roof.

Let me know your thoughts.......thanks.

A cut and paste job of how I want the front to look like.

Some links to the design of the front I hoping to achieve;

just scroll through to the exterior photos of the house.
