Hi all

I am undecide if to go for 90x45 or 120x45 joists (F7 H3 @ 600 centres). Cost is not an issue, height is slight concern, but the major concern is a bouncy deck!

According to the span tables I can space bearers at 1400 max using the 90x45 or 2100 using 120x45.

I would rather use 90x45, but would this still be bouncy if I use stick to the span tables? Or should I opt for the 120x45 to get a solid feeling deck?

Any advise or previous experince would be most appreciated.:2tsup:

Smaller spacings will always give a less bouncy result no matter the size of the timber...if you want to use 90x45 as bearers then I'd be moving down to 1200 centres

Hi Scott
I used 1400 spacing on my deck with laminated 2/90 x 45 for bearers and 90 x45 for joist but with 450 spacing between the joists and i find it fine .I think the 600 for decking span will cause the problem not the 1400 but i am no expert .
i used merbua for the deck

Cheers for the feedback Rob. My prefernce for the 600 centres is less fixing screws for the decking (less work!!). I guess thast the trade off if I go for the 90x45
