Hello! Hoping you can help here! We have a new large spotted gum timber
decking approx 4 mths old which we applied a coat of Aussie clear oil
onto.
It seemed fine until we hired some painters, who painted the timber
posts around the deck. To protect the deck from paint they taped paper onto the decking around each post. When they removed the paper, the glue from the tape remained. We asked them to remove the glue from the deck. We dont know what chemical they used, (they said they used methylated spirits) but now those parts on the decking have gone black from the chemical used to remove the glue. How do we remove the black parts off the deck? Also what is a good oil to use afterwards to help protect the deck? Please help!!!!Thank U

More likely the timber has simply had the oil removed as they cleaned the adhesive away and the timber is now 'bleeding' from water and maybe some iron, zinc or other metal contact. Others know more than me might chime in but I reckon you'll need to use mechanical means ie: sanding with say 80 or 120 grit (try the 120 first) and then re-oiling. Hard to blend in these cases though - the marks often visible as a different tone.
