Hi All,

I have attached a picture of the sub-frame layout for my deck which is about 6mx3.6m. I have one ledger fixed to the house and at the other end is a retaining wall made of dry-stacked Tasman concrete blocks. I am planning to fix a ledger on this retaining wall at the opposite end to support the ends of the joists. The 3 bearers do take up most of the load and added to this is a concrete slab just outside the outside as you walk out and on to the deck. My question is, are there any concerns with fixing a ledger to the retaining wall ? Would question of soil movment play any part on the deck ?

The deck is just about 200mm over the ground.

Thanks as always for the invaluable advice I get on this forum.

Cheers
Ranga

I wouldn't bother.

Your retaining wall is dry stacked and is not that structural. You last bearer appears very close so as long as the overhang length doesn't exceed the capacity of the joist material (which you could add to by adding a gusset) then I reckon you've no need
