I'm building a fence made from 100x100 treated hardwood posts and 100x48mm rails to keep the dog and kids out of the mrs garden and to double as a handrail going down large outdoor stairs, im using lap joints to secure the top rail going down the stairs following the edge of the garden, my question is at the top of the stairs i have a post which one side goes down the stairs and the posts are set in square to that line and then coming back off the post back on the landing there is another post which is set at a different angle(a dogleg at the top of the stairs) id like to use lap joints on all of the rails, id like to hear peoples opinions on how to join the top rail in and still make the fence look right ive had a few ideas but they all seem to require alot of work and in hindsight round posts would of been alot easier hehehehe
