Gidday everbody
I have recieved a quote for a new concrete slab (ie; encluding soil & concrete removal they indicated this would be left on site) and the price came in around $13K for 60smq's.
Can anyone tell me if this is a reasonable price to pay for Melbourne metro.
To be honest I did budget for the new slab but didnt think it was going to be that much.
I was actually thinking that it might be cheaper (ie; rather than pouring a whole new slab) to build on concrete stumps and then build the sub floor that way.
I am already had engineer drawing's completed and received a building permit from the surveyor. However if I was to change I would assume that I would need to speak to the engineer.
Has anyone got any thoughts as to the difference in cost of a concrete slab as oppossed to building on stumps with floor joists and bearers etc and what might be involved in having the enginners plans changed.
Thanks
Hoppy

Very hard to give you an idea if the price is fair enough without viewing the job. I always recomemnd obtaining at least three quotations from builders or contractors. that way you will gain an understanding of what the job is worth.

If you can clear ,set out ,do the formwork, lay the steel , fit expansion joints, get an engineers inspection pour and finish the concrete in half a day , you should be a concretor ! Im sure if its a slab for building on it will be a bit more involved than 100mm thick !That does'nt allow for stripping the formwork either .

Definately get at least 3 quotes. 25MPA concrete is about $190m3, and reo, and 1/2 a day for concreter, unless its fancy, or needs 1/2 a day to board up if weird site.

Very difficult to judge the quote without knowing what the specs are, also what is included or excluded in the quote. No idea what your soil is like or the size of structure that is going on the slab, can you give more info?

A conversation for another place but a contractor not willing to travel more than the car length past his own suburb for work ...@@@@@ I hope a recession doesn't hit guys

Hi guys
I thought you might be interested I obtained 3 seperate quote's . Two came in around the 13K mark with the other around 25K so a big difference there.
Was still contemplating building on concerete stumps instead but the wife not keen . Would rather that it be on concrete slab given that the existing extension is on a slab already.
Cheers

It does seem high but not sure of work involved.
Hire some labourers to do the prep work, backpackers.
Clear site
Lay some crusher dust
Lay the plastic.
Place pods
Box and formwork (the most difficult).
Place steel (SL72 mesh guess) $70 a sheet
Find some concrete labourers to do the pour.
2 person should be enough, less than half day.
May have to hire pump ($1000 a day).
Lets say 8m3 of concrete @ $200m3.
You should get change from $10k.
Good Luck
