I am in the process of purchasing the timber for my house roof
The frame is up and the plans state mgp 12 190x45 on a skillion roof with spacing of 900 for battens and a 5 deg pitch and a span of 5metres

First of all finding mgp 12 is hard to get and the LVL stuff is expensive and it might be exposed to the rain so its not my first option

Could I use mgp10 or f5 190x45 merbau or any other suggestions or reduce the spacing to 600m for more options?

Is the above information any help

So this is the actual house roof, not a pergola ? Gyprock ceilings ?. If so, ignore those span tables from tabma, they are for a pergola. I dunno how the timber was sized in your plans but my hyne program says you need 240 x 45 in mgp 10 or 12 or 245x45 in a LVL, which sounds right to me. I would use the LVL all day over the MGP 10 or 12 but thats just me. MGP 12 is common as mud Australia wide and any good timber yard should be able to source it for you. It can be ordered direct from hyne by the timber yard.
