View Full Version : Slats on a rendered brick fence

Hi,

I had a post recently seeking advice on replacing a leaning brick fence at front of my house. Following the various pieces of advice suggested on this forum, I priced up a modular option but eventually went with the rendered brick option which is currently under construction.

The fence is 1.2m high and approx 5m long including 40cm piers at either end and in the middle which are 1.2m in height, with 600mm high brick construction between the piers.

This leaves me with a further 600mm to be filled in between the piers with slats, either timber or synthethic/composite material. There will be approx 2m space between each set of piers.

Would appreciate any advice as to:

- Where to source the timber or composite slats from (I am Sydney based). Are my options to get a number of individual slats and cut them accordingly or are there any pre-made slat screens I could buy?

- How do the slats get attached to the piers? Do I need to source some braces that need to be fixed onto the rendered piers, and then fix the slats to the braces? Where could I get these and is this something I could do myself or would I require a tradie of some description?

:(

You will need a framework made between piers, the frame will need a vertical member in the middle because the slats will sag or twist over that distance. Any good timber yard will be able to order in the composite slats or Bunnings / timber yards will keep hardwood slats in stock The premade stuff is very expensive and unlikeky to fit your space exactly. Depending on what tools you have you may be able to do it yourself.

Thanks Jiggy,

Looks like pre-made slat structure will be difficult to come by in the right size - By framework, are you referring to a wooden lat screwed into the piers, with the slats screwed to the wooden lats, with similar vertical support in the middle of each set of piers, and slats fixed to these supports also?
