I'm keen to hear if anyone has had a good poke around the new masters store yet, and how it compares to the big green shed where I can be found spending my hard earned cash every Friday night!

I went there last week with a piece of Edwardian architrave that I needed to replace (didn't think they'd have it, but worth a try, as I live only 1/2km from the new store. The guy looked at me, looked at the sample, looked at me and said "what is it?" No idea, at all. and no they don't stock Edwardian archs (nor does Bunnies). Lots of stuff though, pretty much like bunnies.
cheers

G'day,
I hear it's just full of staff poached from local Green Sheds, there's one being built opposite a Bunnies near me and they wait in the carpark for them. Have seen it myself from my mates office window which looks over both carparks, makes for a laugh on a Friday arvo over a beer... The clipboard and handing out business cards gives it away...

It's basically a blue Bunnings. Disclaimer: I work for the parent company.

I'd say it's more an IKEA (in terms of displays) crossed with a Bunnings. Seem to be even with Bunnings on price, although cheaper and better quality in lighting, kitchens and flooring. Bathrooms was disappointing though.
Very clean too and well staffed. Let's hope it stays that way!

I reckon bunnies must be getting ready for the masters roll out. Last week when I went to my usual bunnies the staff were really friendly and helpful which was a bit unusual. even the staff who are usually belligerent like they're doing you some big favour by helping you. I was able to dash in and out and get everything quickly because I just kept asking the staff where everything was :U. when Masters finally make it to Perth I'll check them out to see if they have anything different but maybe this is the kick in the backside bunnings needed to lift their service.

Interesting you should say that, I was in Bunnings on the weekend, and a staff member smiled and said hi.

It must be a new policy. I too am finding it at my local B. they have put in a cafe, to be honest I am not sure if the previously had one but they have moved stuff around so it is visible.
I noticed this morning the seem to be polishing the previously raw concrete floor. There has recently been big changes in the garden section.
I don't think that Masters are far off from opening in SA. I don't think it will change much. Similar stuff, different colours will be about it.

checked out the new Tingalpa Masters. couple of things i noticed. as said earlier very clean and tidy and i like the way the stock is labeled and layed out. Should be expected with a new store but. Prices vary depending on the product... out side in the timber yard a little cheaper than bunnings (prolly to bring hte tradies in) Same with some stock inside... however other stuff well above bunnings price (toilet seat with childs pull down we were looking at $58 at bunnnigns and over $80 at masters) I know bunnings are getting rid of a lot of stock lines that masters have organised deals with suppliers. But also suppliers are saying if you only go with my product and not the competition i will give you a better price. Guess it wil be a case of depnds what your looking for......and shop around. Also I found some very "green" employers at the tinglpa site...whereas there is always someone at bunnings to give you an idea on which way to go with your current project.
p.s. my son loves his little green trolleys at bunning but did quite enjoy the steering wheel trolly at masters LOL...hard choice.

Just noticed while at the local Bunnies in Preston over the weekend that the giant open span warehouse currently under construction on the opposite corner is going to be a Master's store ! Bring on the competition !! :)

Bring on the competition !! :)I'm not sure I'd call an extention of Woolies Vs Coles 'real' competition. I still prefer my local hardware, but if I need one thing and I'm nearby, I'll use Bunnings rather than drive through town to the local.

I was in the green shed the other day never seen so many red shirts. Five in the plant section where you would normaly
struggle to find one. They were making me nervous all that hovering about. Must be a Masters planned for the area.

Just been to the new one near Narellan. It has a McDonalds McCafe in it !!! A cross between Harvey Norman / Ikea/ Bunnings. Great selection of cordless and electric tools. Have'nt had time to check out the trade section as the wife was looking at all the white goods etc. Nice outdoor furniture section. Will find out at the weekend what the Drive in /Trade section bit is like.

It has a McDonalds McCafe in it !!!The local Council knocked that back in our Masters. Yet they are allowing another Woolies to be built (which will make it four in a 5km radius, plus two Coles, two K-Marts, several IGAs and 7-11's)! Insanity.

We went to Masters in Knoxfield (over the road from the green shed) no problem with people asking was i looking for anything in particular, what a change from the other mob where you used to all most chase after to find any help.
We found the Masters store warm and clean,we were after a kitchen sink, they were all displayed(not like the others where they were all over the place) plenty of advice, altogether a good experience.
Checked out the others,a lot more friendly than they used to be,good job for some compition!!!:2tsup:

One big problem with Masters, is their trade card is based on opening an AMEX card, with bunnings PowerPass no such thing, plus you can use their Powerpass card to just get discounts and put the actual purchase on your own VISA so you can get points etc, and never actually get a bill from Bunnings.
Masters shoud come to the same arrangement as Bunnings in this area, as don't even start me on the problems I [and many others] have had with AMEX in the past, NEVER NEVER again will I have any AMEX card.
The Masters application for trade card requires you to put your whole life story down, including your preferred colour of underwear, with the Powerpass card it was easy as 123 to get it, with no complicated questions regarding how much money you have today, tomorrow and next week, how much have you ever had, and how much will you ever have, too much information !
I to have noticed today that the guy in out local Bunnings plumbing section was very hepfull to another customer [he was actually talking to someone] usually he is no where to be seen except hiding behind the part of the isle you cant see.
Don't know if their staff are going to be any beter, as I know someone who used me as a reference to get a job their, he new nothing about hardware whatsoever, but I gave him a good reference and he ended up getting the job, time will tell.

funny thing is how crap the discount is most of the time dont think i have ever got more than 10 bucks off no matter how much the bill was. but in saying that bunnings trade has good prices they are even 30% cheaper than the atcual stores

Agree, I bought $1000 of timber the other day and got a big fat $0 discount ?? [I was tempted to just return it :D]
Admittedly their shelf price was actually cheaper than we get from our normal supplier who we spend more than $150k+ with each year.
But today I bought a box of bolts, and a can of expanding foam, and a few other little things totalling around $90 and got $5 discount !!
