Hi,

I'm trying to get my head around installing a pair of timber french doors into my 70s brick veneer house. I want to have the doors open outwards and lie flush against the brick wall when open.

Can someone give me some hints about where the door frame will sit in the cavity? The entire wall is 250mm thick (10mm plaster, 95mm stud, void, and brick).

I understand I'll need to use parliament hinges, and that the door frame is usually inset about 50mm from the brick face. 50mm plus the standard jamb width of 140mm gets me 190mm, leaving me to fill 60mm of space before I can nail on the door architrave.

Is it clear what I'm asking? Ideally I'd love a section diagram through the jamb and at the sill and head, but the Staines book pictures only thinner weatherboard walls and I've not been able to find another diagram.

Hope you can help.

This is my first thread so I hope i am doing everything correctly!!
i am thinking of replacing all the interior doors in my home as we have done some renovations and now the doors look decidedly old and shabby.
i have looked on the internet and found a site which sells Hume internal doors fairly cheaply and so I am wondering if I would be bettergetting the doors myself and then finding some one to hang them for me or..would it be better and more acceptable to the carpenter to get the doors...
