    Default Sprinkler system advice

    Hi all,

Hoping to get some advice on the design and construction of a BCA compliant fire sprinkler system by experts.

Whats the most economical way of doing it? I've had a few quotes and the variation in price is huge

I understand that there are also plumbers that are licenced to do some of the installation.

Do people generally get an engineer to design it and then take the job out to tender or do people tend it get one firm to do the design and construct?

Would really appreciate some assistance from people that have done it or people that install them. Specifically, looking for some of the pitfalls that I need to watch out for and what is the best / most economical way of doing it?

Those cost of a sprinkler system really makes me have to sit down

    Cheers,

    B

Are you talking about fire sprinklers or garden sprinklers?

While not an expert on fire sprinklers I have installed a few systems that were designed and sized by an engineer. Being a thing that local council usually requires you might be better off asking them what they want.

You have 2 ways of getting it done, both of which you have mentioned.

The first is to get the system designed by a qualified fire systems engineer who will then produce the schematics that you can then ask suitable qualified companies to quote on or if the job is large you may want to tender it. This approach would be if you have little or no knowledge of the work required.

The second way is the design & build route although each company will have its own way of doing things so you can end up with big price differences as one company might quote the minimum required and one company may quote over and above what is required depending on the perceived risk. This approach would be suitable if you have a good working knowledge of what is required as you can guide the companies quoting to ensure they quote for similar work.

The most important thing regardless of which option you take is to ensure that all parties involved are suitable qualified and have appropriate insurances.
