Default Dont Buy A Plasma Laser Tv"s Are Comin

I was at the local University the other day chatting to an student studying to be an electronics engineer well he had been to korea or somewhere over that way on case study to the Mitsubishi factory and apparently they are about to release a Laser TV which will do away with the plasma they are rear projection have heaps more colours and use about a tenth of the power usage full 1080p High definition and 150mm thick they were suppose to be released for christmas but i think they are under pressure to hold off until the plasma's stock are exhausted and should be released in the new year so if your planning on a plasma for chrissy like i was i would hold off has anyone else heard about these?

Here's a link. It apperas to be a little undecided as to its viability yet.

However, you can be sure that it will cost a sh**load to begin with and the technology will need to be properly consumer tested (i.e. factory testing only tells them so much, you need real in home use to see how long they last and how well they perform.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_TV

All for new technology though ... we'll wait and see.

Yea, believe it when you see it. that Novalux/Arasor hypefest around the time of their IPO made it all sound very suspect. They did a comparison demo for the press with normal and Laser TV sets, but it turned out the Laser TV was not a Laser TV, it was a normal TV 'emulating' the performance of the new technology. What a croc.

woodbe.

Like any new pending, future technology it will take a long time before I'd even consider buying it.
The current 1080 plasma TVs are so good I'm not sure why anybody needs to worry about waiting for unproven technology.

Cheers.......obee

New technology was demonstrated in an Electronics Fair earlier this year in Germany that has pixel sized CRT tubes screen printed - yes screen printed - onto a plain sheet of glass - size is unlimited - they estimate a 5 ft screen would cost around $450 The image and colour is the sharpest ever. Total thickness about 1/2"

Although revolutionary they said manufacturers have put so much capital in gearing up for plasma and LCD screens it will be 10 years before this next generation will be released - unless someone with the capital not into plasma wants to break into the market

I totally agree I was reading the other day that plasma sales have fallen dramatically even though the prices have come down people are starting to realise how much juice/electricity plasmas suck and are turning them off from buying them and as said Mitsubishi and others are under pressure to stop the technology release of the laser otherwise as said companies will go broke after the huge investment in the plasma and lcd market..

Not this little black duck - in 1972 I paid $3500 for a Super VHS video recorder cause it was going to be the latest wiz bang thing (lucky it wasn't Beta) One bitten twice shy I guess so I resist spending a couple of thousand dollars on a piece of technology that keeps dropping in price - Only way I'll get a big screen plasma is if Foxtel gave one away with a cable subscription - now there's a unique marketing plan

That's exactly how I feel after purchasing my Super VHS camera, a few years back.

I like the idea of including a free plasma tv with a new Foxtel subscription, however, as I am against cable tv, the subscription would have to be free as well.

But.. A LASER TV! Now you can accurately measure distances, set your pictures in a straight line on the wall and, if we are attacked, aim the TV at the incoming missiles and blow them out the air!!!. All while watching "as the stomach turns"

Plasmas might get legislated out of the game anyway. Lots of countries are stating they are going to mandate maximum power draws for Plasmas and non compliant stuff will have to be withdrawn. Could give a stimus to Laser production given the problems with reducing Plasma power drain.
