Default How do you stop the dribbles

We have two stories of decking - I have treated them twice before and both occasions ended up with dribbles all over the one below (and the walls and windows) and on the garden underneath the bottom one.

First time I used a broom - second time a roller - both were equally as bad for surplus.

What would people on here recommend to minimise the splash without resorting to a 2" brush (There is 75 sq m of deck involved )

It seems you have no children. The answer is you dont. How do you stop a kid being a messy eater, You dont. You stick a bib on the little tyke. Plastic painters sheet is cheap, wap that down and slop to your hearts content.

I strike this issue with decks above decks often. Nothing will stop drips from falling down between boards. I use black builders plastic sheeting and weigh them down with buckets of water. I only use the Shurline pad applicator as I find it easier to control the amount of stain. When I work along the wall of a house where it meets the deck I hold the applicator in my hand and do the first 4 boards running the length of the house. Shurline also make a very useful small applicator. The handle is bright read and about the size of a spoon handle. it comes with a pair of slip on pads about 25x30mm rectangle. I also use this to get a very neat and trim coating near the walls. Yes it may be a little slower and you will need to bend over but the overall mess is vastly reduced. Just finished a deck above a deck with white painted joists. What a hassle. The dribbles were there but not very many.

The small applicator is a Bunnings for about 7.50

    Good luck,
