Default Merbau decking and bird business!

We layed a new deck about 6 weeks ago and built a pergola over the top that's yet to have a roof put on yet.

We let it weather and recently just put 2 coats of oil on and it's looking great.

We have a bit of a bird problem in that it seems like a target for their umm "business" and I'm constantly out there scrubbing it off.

The problem I have is that we're going overseas for 3 weeks and it will be out in the open the whole time and no doubt upon our return will be a horrible shade of white

Would it harm the deck if we layed down plastic dust sheets over the top of it while we're away? I was mainly worried about maybe the heat and moisture underneath "sweating" the timber?

I just assumed the leaving the birds "business" on there might stain it. It takes a fair bit of elbow grease to scrub it off after just a day drying in the sun.

    Any advice for a newbie?

    Cheers!

timber will be fine under it. Or you could buy an eagle to watch it while your away....

    G'day,

Get a few rubber snakes from a $2 shop and chuck 'em on the deck. We had a Western Red Cedar holiday house that was attacked by Cockatoos and the snakes worked well to scare them off.

Apparently a fake owl perched overlooking the area works well too.

Bird Owl Scare - Gardening Supplies - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at Nextag - Price - Review

Sensor Owl is my favourite (the concept, not the execution judging by the feedback comments)
